International Computer Science Program

Students majoring in Computer Science at URI have the opportunity to participate in the International Computer Science Program (ICSP), an adjunct to the University's well-known and successful International Engineering Program (IEP).

The International Computer Science Program is a five-year, dual-degree program. Students who complete it will earn a B.S. in computer science and a B.A. degree in German, French, or Spanish. The ICSP and IEP feature language courses for computer scientists and engineers, a six-month paid internship with a company abroad in the fourth year of the program, and the option of study abroad at partner universities in Germany, France, Spain, and Mexico.

Currently, there are over 150 students who are participating in the parent IEP. Over 100 students have completed internships with German companies in Europe, and the first French and Spanish IEP interns have been recently or are currently abroad. All of the more than 80 graduates so far have either found excellent jobs with international companies, or have gone on to fine graduate programs.

We urge those interested in computer science to give careful consideration to the ICSP. Computer science in the age of the Internet and World Wide Web has become and will remain international and urgently needs young Americans with bilingual and intercultural skills. Our contacts with companies active in the global arena continually confirm this. Indeed, many companies now seek trilingual professionals with computer science background!
