NGIS Seeks Software Engineers

Company: Northrop Grumman Information Systems (NGIS), Middletown, RI

Job Title: Software Engineer

Location: RI – Newport, Middletown

Job Description:

“Take the ship to periscope depth,” commands the captain to his highly focused crew, a complement of sailors navigating the lead ship of the Navy’s most advanced class of attack submarines, the USS Virginia. “Periscope depth, aye” responds the pilot. Slowly and silently, the vessel approaches the surface and raises its photonics mast. Early warning systems have indicated the presence of enemy warships in the submarine’s vicinity, and the astute crewmen quickly identify hostile watercraft with their visual sensors. The safety of the crew and security of the nation depend on how the captain responds in the next few moments. But this scenario isn’t happening on the open sea – this situation occurs daily at naval bases around the country with the use of simulation software and networked hardware design developed by Northrop Grumman engineers. This is the Submarine Multi-Mission Team Trainer (SMMTT), the U.S. Navy’s premier submarine simulation environment.

If you seek to develop advanced simulation systems such as the Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System Next Generation (NITES-Next) software and the award-winning SMMTT project, NGIS Middletown is looking for you.

The team is looking for developers who are currently pursuing degrees or are graduates from computer science or engineering programs. Prospective team members should be familiar with object oriented design and object oriented programming fundamentals. Experience with C++ is an asset. Candidates must be able to obtain a U.S. Government “Secret” level security clearance if hired. Internship and full-time positions are available.

Educational Requirements:

Requires current pursuit or completion of a BS/BA degree.

Unique/Additional Requirements

Candidates must have or be eligible for a US Government “Secret” level security clearance.
